Kashmir
The ultimate rock song of my lifetime is Kashmir ( and Drapery falls but perhaps its more hard rock than this). Plant and Page became the rock icons of our times. I don’t think it has ever been the case that I do not get goosebumps after listening to Kashmir be it winter or summer. Page is the best guitarist perhaps( I have not listened to Hendrix much, C always said Hendrix is the one and only ONE, I think C says it because Hendrix plays a left-handed guitar like him 😀 ).
Led Zepplin rocked the 70s, the time of liberation and left movement all over the world, my parents were lucky to be part of 70s youth, the literature movement, the rock scene, the blues, a new free world away from the Victorian hang over, music and literature rocked the 70s I hear from Atticus and Amma. The record collection we still have back in Chippi is a precious one. I need to get a record player from an antique shop and revive all those records indeed.
So here is Kashmir added to my juke box. 🙂
And stars fill my dream
I’m a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed
Sounds caress my ear
And not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear
Oh, yeah, mama, there ain’t no denyin’
Oh, ooh yes, I been blind
Mama, mama, ain’t no denyin’, no denyin’
As the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand
As I scan this wasted land
Try to find, try to find the way I feel
Like sorts inside a dream
Leave the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
Like Shangri-la beneath the summer moon
I will return again
As the dust that floats finds you
We’re moving through Kashmir
Cross the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear
Oh, when I want, when I’m on my way, yeah
And my feet wear my fickle way to stay
But I’m down oh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah
Yeah, but I’m down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oh, my baby
Let me take you there
Come on, oh let me take you there
Let me take you there
Losing my religion
I ‘ve got the love for you if you were in your teens in the 90s!! the 90s!! :-)( Yup Calvin Harris should have sung it this way eh?)
REM – Rock and Roll love – thanks to Atticus, who danced away in our house annoying Amma to rock music, when I and Vava joined him, which annoyed Amma more. She was always into old Malayam melodies and perhaps Jazz would be the max she could take, in the western music genre.
This song is on my playlist for decades and will be there for keeps I think. A song which people thought will not do well in the charts, shot up like fire, competing with Nirvana who was another sensation that time. Oh, Kurt, the Hunk Kurt, and poor muted soft Stipe. But anyway the song is a sensational song, loved it then and love it now.
Here is it people, for my jukebox 🙂 My jukebox is for people who are fed up with POP music drivel( Yup am old :D, fine ) from Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Shereen, Enrique blah blah! Oh, and people who like Friends won’t like my jukebox I have noticed as well 😀 That somehow makes me happy. Evil grin!
Oh, life is bigger
It’s bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up
That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
Every whisper
Of every waking hour
I’m choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I’ve said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around?
Now I’ve said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no I’ve said too much
I haven’t said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry
Why try?
That was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream
Thank you
See ya
Thanks a lot
Sambhala Hai Maine :-)
God one of the beautiful beautiful song which I can never get enough off from my teens 🙂 And these two yummy people whom I adored. Perfect couple!
Sambhala Hain Maine Bahot Apane Dil Ko
Sambhala Hain Maine Bahot Apane Dil Ko
Zubaan Par Teraa Phir Bhi Naam Aa Rahaa Hai
Jahaan Raaz Ko Chupaya Na Jaye
Jahaan Raaz Ko Chupaya Na Jaye
Mohabbat Mein Aisa Mukaam Aa Rahaa Hai
Banaayaa Hain Maine Tuze Apanaa Saathee
Rahe Kis Tarah Fir Mere Hosh Baakee
Nazar Yoo Bahakane Lagee Hain Ke Jaise
Mere Saamane Koee Jaam Aa Rahaa Hai
Ye Zulfon Ke Baadal Ghanere, Ghanere Mere Bajon Par Jo Too Ne Bikhere
Mai Samazaa Ke Jaise Meree Dhadakanon Ko
Teree Dhadakanon Kaa Payaam Aa Rahaa Hai
അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി നാളിലെൻ മനസ്സൊരു
The most beautiful memory of harmonizing with Amma and Vava to this song brings back tears of joy to my eyes. One of the best songs ever in Malayalam. Evergreen song. I miss singing with Amma and getting lost in the notes. Soon Mother, when am home, we are going to have musical nights and recording sessions just like before :-)! Can’t wait to be home in a bit.

Live Earth – 2008
RJ Vinooty here, with more songs.
There is this beautiful memory from Live earth 2008 concert that I cherish like a treasure in a tinker box. I open the tinker box when am in one of those musical mood. I relish that concert. It was a beautiful evening…
We were late, me and Ann, to be at the Live earth concert. I could see the Wembley stadium far away, majestic as ever. As we rushed to the entrance, excited and giggling and screaming, we saw Snow Patrol performing Chasing Cars on the stage. I could not believe my eyes or ears that I was in the legendary Wembley stadium where so many of my favorite bands have rocked the stage, the wind and the sun was mesmerizing, and as we entered, snow patrol was jamming away and it was magical, purely magical. We ran towards the crowd. I remember that evening very vividly. Chasing cars song would be too cheesy for her, Ann thinks am too romantic at heart and we are poles apart. Well she sort of brings me back to earth I think. So adding one of Annmoos favorite songs, which became my favorite too back in 2005, when she made me listen to it. It has been in my play list since then and perhaps I listen to it at-least once a week. Here is Tear drops on the fire from Massive attack, for Annmoo, for our friendship, for knowing you for more than 20 years now, for our love for music, for many more good days yet to come.
Here is the song people, hope you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7K72X4eo_s
The black panther – Tupac – the revolutionary
The long awaited Tupac movie trailer – All Eyez on Me – was released yesterday. I cannot wait to see the movie. The black panther Tupac died young at 25. But the legacy of his movement that black lives matter is eternal. Even now he is considered one of the best Hip Hop artist the world has evern seen and someone who moved people with his rap songs. Hunted by enemies, trying to lock him up in prisons and what not, he was finally shot dead, and was made to perish. But his legacy lives, and so does the movement. A social just world for all. A world which is equal. Watch out for the movie release all :-).
