“ALL MODERN AMERICAN LITERATURE COMES FROM ONE BOOK BY MARK TWAIN CALLED HUCKLEBERRY FINN. THERE WAS NOTHING BEFORE, THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING AS GOOD SINCE.” – Hemmingway
Was making a list of books for the little dundubees reading spree, and remembered about Tom and Huck. 🙂 My childhood boyfriends.
I remember I read the books and then watched the movie Adventures of Tom Sawyer with Atticus when I was little and adored the two boys, so did my sister and my cousins. The boys were our heroes, we discussed them in length. Tom could be my bf when Huck could be my brother, that is how I imagined then, the whole after effect of reading the books.
The funniest thing which I remember so vividly from the book is Tom, gifting a frog to Becky on a secret date and Becky jumping away, but still gaga for Tom :-). Gone is our innocent childhood phase, but then my dundubees relive all of it for me in their own way. I see another childhood through their eyes, which I feel part off as a child, again. 🙂
Huck was a more of a hero for me, his self-made life, his views on slavery, his compassion for Jim the slave, how he rescues him, a character with more depth and comes out brave and principled.
The books portray a lot of deep values through a teenage kid’s viewpoint which makes it so simple and easy to inculcate as children. So Mark Twain books, people, definitely should be on your bucket list I think, for upcoming readers 🙂
