A letter for the broken self

My only real condition for the whole thing is
that if you do find someone else,
then I don’t want to leave your life.
At the very least I’ll be your brother forever.
I want to know your children,
even if they aren’t mine,
and I want you to know my children,
even if they aren’t yours.
I can’t think of life without you,
maybe because we have been through so much together.
So your choice is between brother, and lover.
Either way I’m going to be there for you,
to support you in whatever you do.
Lastly, if you do decide that you are happy to wait and see
what we can make together,
then know that one day soon
will be the start of the rest of our lives together.

  1. To invent your own life's meaning is not easy; when we fall short of words some words like this letter pierce us forever.
